It begins!

In 2020, for my 50th birthday, I had planned a trip with Erin and my niece, Avery, to Iceland. COVID-19 ruined our plans. This year, on the eve of my 55th, we try again.

The first bad new of the trip: we did not buy fancy enough tickets to chill out in the Delta Sky Lounge. Which I think is bogus because we are in the highest class of ticket for our flight, but since it's not Delta One, we were denied. The second bad news of the trip: It's hot in this airport and I am sweating.  Third bad news, I'm mad at this website because I can't figure out how to text wrap around the picture. So this picture is just weirdly in the middle of things.Getting to the airport super early does allow for great people watching.  We've got flight-missers, toddlers running rampant, monks with the Friar Tuck haircut, and gate attendants with a sense of humor (one said, "...our plane needs to watch its weight. The story of my life! We have a fat plane, people!")

Erin has spent countless hours prepping for our trip. We've got places to stay, things to see and things to do.  If it had been left up to me, we would have been showing up to Reykjavik and figured it out from there. (Which has Erin reminding me that June is a very busy time in Iceland and we would be without lodging for 8 days. And she would be correct.)  I think I like the idea of being a wandering spirit...but am always thankful to have someone keep me on track.

Erin is reading a book on her small kindle. She does not want to share the title... So make your own assumptions.

Edited to add:
Erin showing me that the side buttons on my phone can also be a picture clicker and champagne!
