The Snuffleupagus Peninsula

Today, we trekked north to what we have named the Snuffleupagus Peninsula.

The branding of said location is: "...see Iceland in miniature with a mix of glaciers, mountains, lava fields and coastal beauty." Unfortunately, just as only a few of the residents of Sesame Street could see the real Mr. Snuffleupagus, we were only able to see a bit of the beautifulness the peninsula brags about.  While we were very appropriately dressed for the weather, marching about on rocks in rain and wind got old after hour three, and we weren't even to our final destination: Kirkjufell.

Kirkjufell made its cinematic debut in season 6 of Game of Thrones.

Our adventure started with a half-loaf of freshly-baked bread hung on our doorknob as part of our breakfast package. So, so delicious.

Things went downhill from there. Because did you know that Iceland has a 6km tunnel that goes UNDER THE OCEAN? We didn't either.

Not. At. All.

But then we got to some more cool basalt columns #earthscience.

When you're wearing grey and black, you kind of
blend in with the rocks. But here I am climbing
(to the base of the columns).

My view from the top with Erin dancing a jig for me.

From here we headed to Seal Beach. Do you see any seals? Neither did we. Well, we did see one, but it was dead and beheaded and did not take a picture.

We stopped at a foss and I tried to Zillow how much this house cost. :/

This shot is from a national park. Erin had to fight with some influencer-people to get out of the way so she could also take a picture.

Shoutout to this stuff that's on a lot of the hilly trails.
Non-slip, even when wet. Also shoutout to my LL Bean hiking shoes. I've only fallen once.

Finally, after being on the road for six hours, we came to our Game of Thrones destination. Yup. It's a mountain.

Erin FaceTimed David so he could see it too.

I did some exploring by the water and made Erin nervous so she had to take photographic evidence in case I fell in.

I didn't tell her til later that I scooped up some of that
clear, rushing glacier water and drank it.

The ride back went more quickly, but still took us listening to the soundtracks of High School Musical 1 and 2 as well as Cheetah Girls 1 and 2.

Erin did some great detective work and found a place called 'Pizza Port' close to our hotel that made brick oven-like pizzas to go.  It was the perfect way to end a long day of driving and seeing the sights.

Tomorrow is a relax day. We're heading to a 'bake bread in the ground' tour and then hang out at a geothermal spa.  Our tired muscles can not wait!
